Coronavirus may be more harmful to pregnant women

Matra Technologies Private Limited, a health-tech start-up led by Harvard and Columbia alumni has released a research report highlighting that governments and health authorities are missing a much larger, and deeper impact of coronavirus on expecting and new mothers.

Messages on the importance of handwashing, social distancing, masks, helplines are crucial to prevent the rapid spread of coronavirus. However, uncertain antenatal visits, hospital admission, reduced availability of food and transport and other barriers can have a dangerous but silent emotional impact on expecting and new mothers. Complications of a decline in emotional health include fatal heart problems and other devastating results, which affect not only mothers but their families as well.

Unlike mainstream coronavirus media reports, this Coronavirus and pregnancy report touches on emotional health, breastfeeding, post labour contact, and other topics compiled from leading maternal health focussed organizations, and healthcare practitioners. It explains why the coronavirus scenario can be more harmful to expecting and new mothers than the virus itself.

A decline in emotional health may not be even known to mothers and relatives. The report, therefore suggests a remote one-stop solution to reach out proactively to mothers and screen for emotional health; and cater to emotional, physical and clinical concerns.

Mothers can access the report and enlist for a limited time, free annual access to pregnancy coaching at https://www.naima.tech/coronavirusandpregnancy.
