Connections For Life Launches with Innovative New Initiative for Combating the Loneliness Crisis in Older Adults
Connections For Life has officially launched and is tackling the “age-old” challenge of loneliness in older adults with modern solutions that are funded by the local Nashville community. Together with the community it serves, Connections For Life is on a mission to provide structured social connections for senior citizens who lack the means to engage with others independently.
Loneliness in older adults is directly correlated with a wide expanse of health conditions, including mental health concerns, cardiovascular disease, and even death. According to U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, loneliness can be attributed to a 29% increased risk of heart disease; a 32% increased risk of stroke; a 50% increased risk of dementia; and a 60% increased risk of premature death.
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Connections For Life founder Jim Buzhardt said, “The problem and the solution are very well-known and well-documented. We know, without a doubt, that without consistent social connection, people will continue to suffer and die. Nashville has always banded together to help those in need, especially in terms of our vulnerable older population. This is a call for our community to make things right for our older adults. They deserve it.”
Connections For Life develops monthly connection care plans for older adults in Nashville and provides private, consistent home visits, phone calls, and check-ins. Life Connectors provide these services and have undergone a stringent background, vetting, and application process. Most of all, Life Connectors are compassionate and caring people who are focused on the well-being of the community’s older adults.
“Loneliness is inevitable,” said Buzhardt. “If we live long enough, we too will experience the symptoms of chronic loneliness. Connections For Life has an effective scientific solution to stop the cycle, and we can do something about it now.”
